As the 2008 awards are handed out, that answer appears to be, hellz no.

The uplifting tear-jerker won another award this weekend.

It won the top prize from the Producers Guild of America at their big awards shindig on Saturday.

Slumdog is THE film to beat at the Oscars!

Slumdog Millionaire is a film directed by Danny Boyle and written by Simon Beaufoy. The film is based on the bestselling novel Q and A by Vikas Swarup. Production began in Mumbai in November 2007. After showings at various festivals, the film will have a limited release on November 12, 2008.

Accused of cheating and desperate to prove his innocence, an eighteen year old orphan from the slums of Mumbai reflects back on his tumultuous life while competing to win 20 million rupees on India's Who Wants to be a Millionaire? in Danny Boyle's inspirational drama. Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) may not have a penny to his name, but that could all change in a matter of hours. He's one question away from taking the top prize on India's most popular television game show, but as with everything else in Jamal's life, it isn't going to be easy. Arrested by police under suspicion of cheating, Jamal is interrogated by the authorities. The police simply can't believe that a common "slumdog" could possibly possess the knowledge to get this far in the game, and in order to convince them of how he gained such knowledge Jamal begins reflecting back on his childhood. As young boys, Jamal and his older brother Salim lived in squalor, and lost their mother in a mob attack on Muslims. Subsequently forced to rely on their own wits to survive, the desperate siblings fell back on petty crime, eventually befriending adorable yet feisty young Latika as they sought out food and shelter on the unforgiving streets of Mumbai. Though life on the streets was never easy, Jamal's experiences ultimately instilled him with the knowledge he needed to answer the tough questions posed to him on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

The film had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, and received very positive reviews.Boyle announced that he made minor edits before its screening at the 33rd Toronto International Film Festival, where it went on to win the Cadillac People's Choice Award, voted on by festival audiences.Several prominent critics such as Roger Ebert have claimed that the film is a strong contender at the Academy Awards.[12] It closed the London Film Festival next, on October 30 before its limited release.

Enthiran Movie Photo Gallery - On Location

Enthiran (The Robot) director Shankar’s dream project with Superstar Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai has generated a lot of interest among the fans. Rajini and Shankar who boast of having a superhit formula have grouped in a exceptional team for this Endhiran Movie. Music director A R Rahman and ace cameraman Rathnavelu also form the part of Shankar’s creative team.

The animatronics of the film will be handled by the Stan Winston Studio (USA), which was responsible for the impressive animation sequences in movies such as Predator, Jurassic Park, Pearl Harbor, Iron man and the Terminator, while Mary E Vogt, the well known designer who has worked in Hollywood movies like Men in Black, Batman Returns and Inspector Gadget will be designing the scientific outfits for Enthiran. Stunt director Yuen Woo Ping, who made audiences gasp with his stunts in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Matrix and Kill Bill, will handle the action for the movie.

The movie is being produced by Ayngaran International Films Pvt Ltd., and Eros International.

Come a whiff of fresh air in Kollywood is Kadhalna Summa Illai. At a time when larger-than-life themes hold fort in Tamil cinema, Raj TV has ventured to film production with a movie that provides some fodder to the audience.

Inspired by Telugu hit Ghamyam, the movie takes a closer on our attitude towards life. It makes one take a sneak peek on his self and his outlook towards the society. Illankannan, who wielded the megaphone for Arjun's Ottran before, has narrated a gripping and interesting story which is about the journey that two youths with contrasting characters set out together. The events that unfold in their journey make up the film.

The movie has no popular faces in it. Yet it is strikingly impressive. Illankannan has managed to infuse the Tamil nativity in the script that works out well.

Born in an affluent family, Abhiram (Sharvanand), son of a rich entrepreneur (Nasser) looks for status and class in everything around him. He comes across Dr Janaki (Kamalinee Mukherjee). She is a do-gooder, who cares for the people around her. Abhiram falls for her amiable ways and cute looks. But both are poles apart in terms of their attitude towards life. They estrange after Abhiram try to restrict her from venturing to noble acts.

Unable to forget her, Abhiram sets out on his motorcycle in search of Janaki. He meets 'Vetti'Velu (Ravikrishna), an orphan and a petty thief. He is a cool customer on earth, who takes things as it comes. A happy-go-lucky youngster, he joins Abhiram in his search for his beloved. They travel to far off places in motorcycle. Abhiram gets educated by events that he encounters in his journey. He develops an open-minded nature and yearns and craves for Janaki's company. Did he manage to find his lover forms the climax.

Sharvanand, who played the same role in the original (Ghamyam) is a well come addition to Tamil cinema. He looks good on screen and does his part well especially in action and romantic sequences. Kamalinee Mukherjee plays a matured role with ease and elan. M S Baskar and Ganja Karuppu does their part and the former succeeds in coming out with some good comedy.

However the real scene-stealer is Ravikrishna. He acts as the fulcrum in the movie. Ravikrishna's characterisation reminds one of the role played by Suriya in Ameer's Moundam Pesiyadhae. He goes hammer and tong with a role that resembles that of an average-youth-on-the-street.

Manisharma and Vidyasagar have rehashed some of their Telugu hits.

Illankannan has retained the portions involving Kamalinee Mukherjee and Sharvanand from the Telugu original, while the Ravikrishna and M S Baskar's scenes have been shot. Kadhalna Summa Illai is a delightful film that is entertaining and conveys a message loud and clear.

Suraj has produced the film only on gut feelings after pledging logic in the pawn shop.

Born in a poor family Dhanush who has not crossed 10th is 'Padikadhavan' (Great: at least the title has some logic). Suffering from pressure from the parent, and others in the family he consults his good-for-nothing friends on how to improve his lot. Heeding the advice of a friend who suggests to fall in love with a rich girl and get married to her, he spreads the net for Tamanna, a B.Tech., student. When the time comes for Tamanna to reciprocate Dhanush's love, he is compelled to clash with mobsters. Romance and fights and two and half hours later, the director finishes the story without any logic.

Dhanush's character is fitting as far as he was unlettered and doing nothing purposeful. But to expect him to fight with 50 mobsters and coming on top of them all is something that we can't tolerate.

What is still more beyond belief is the fight with Atul Kulkarni. Beaten to pulp with injuries all over, he suddenly gets new strength and goes about fighting with flying kicks at Atul Kulkarni.

It irritates us to watch someone attending a tutorial college as a challenge to his fathe's taunts behaving like a third rate student. The director was meticulous in thinking and writing the dialogue to name Gandhi's Dandi March as Guindy March.

If someone is admitted in G.H. with body full of bandages for fake injuries just for romantic purposes he will be really beaten. The only use of Tamanna's love for Dhanush is for the purpose of a kuthatta song.

It is super comedy to watch Tamanna's father Suman arriving in a helicopter and causing maximum damage to the city returning as if he had a good rest in the park. While Atul Kulkarni's character promises some expectations in the initial part of the film Suraj has spoiled it later.

The music, cinematography, editing and all other things about the film are very good. But somehow dislike is all that is left of 'Padikadhavan'.

Director Sasi returns with "Poo" (Bloom) after a long hiatus, but has ended up with a bloomer.
The offering has situations similar to mushy hits like "Autograph", "Thavamaai Thavamirundhu" and "Azhagy".

The story revolves around a villager-turned-engineer Thangarasu (Srikant) who is unhappily married to a rich woman. He bumps into his old flame Mari (Parvathy), the better half of a tea shop owner. The film deals with their trip down memory lane.

Flashbacks reveal Mari's crush, her inability to say "yes" at the vital moment and the sacrifices of the protagonist's father to help him reach an acceptable social status.

Mari's present sob story and her continued yearning interspersed with her earlier inability to express her love take the film towards its rather insipid climax.

The treacle-like story lacks verve and looks more like a badly made television serial.

Parvathy is the only saving grace thanks to her gallant effort to etch the sad character. Srikant as a bumpkin cuts no ice.

Listless music drags the film down further.

Cinematography by Muthiah is just a wee-bit above average adding some beauty to the village backdrop

Movie Review:Producer Abhirami Ramanathan deserves applause for rendering a movie for kids which is a laugh-a-thon right from word go.

Directed by Raju Eshwaran, who was part of Rajinikanth's 'Bloodstone' team, 'Panchamirtham' is a movie that is a unique mix of comedy and magic sure to evoke applause from children.

The director has proved that one can make engrossing movies without any gory stunt sequences, double meaning comedy and needless emotions. Blending mythology with a contemporary theme is a tight rope walk act. Raju Eshwaran has managed to weave magic by bringing the two together.........

BOMMALATTAM

Like aged and mellowed spirits, director Bharati Raja has matured and levitated towards one of his first loves - a whodunit.

His earlier suspense thriller “Sigappu Rojakkal” starring thespian Kamal Haasan was a hit. Though not in the same class of Agatha Christie’s murder mysteries about showbiz personalities, “Bommalattam” is an experience that keeps one glued to the edge of the seat.

It concerns three murders with a single thread - its psychotic protagonist movie director Rana (Nana Patekar).

However, one is still to fathom the fixation of filmdom with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), whose officer Varma (Arjun) unravels the plot in “Bommalattam”.

The story revolves around Rana, a seemingly clever murderer who leaves no clues behind to nail him. The cat and mouse game that follows keeps the audience guessing till the end.

The central, subtle theme of puppetry with enough indications of strings being pulled from an altogether unexpected quarter actually embellishes the film.

One comes out of the cinema hall with a hangover due to a scintillating performance by Patekar, whose histrionics pale “action king” Arjun into significance. Kajal, who makes a bow through this venture, has an easy screen presence.

Reshammiya’s music does not impress, but the background score is apt and takes the movie to a different plane.

Raja has handled his theme well and the stars know when they see a good script.

Cinematographer Kannan, a regular in all of Raja’s ventures, has done a perfect job.

There are picture postcard shots galore - the nicest part of a Raja movie.

Kannan deserves more than a pat on the back.

Cinematographer Saravanan directs this film which has Simbu in the role of a Hindu, Brahmin priest.Yuvan Shankar Raja composes the music. Actress Sneha is pairing up with Silambarasan in the flashbac sequence. It will be the first time, that Simbu plays a Hindu priest and is doing a double role. Review :

After Pokkiri, Prabhu Deva and Vijay are back with 'Villu' a 'Power pack Pongal' for Vijay Fans. Vijay Fans in USA are thrilled to taste the feast two days prior to release in India. After two not so good movies such as ATM and Kuruvi, Vijay is back in form. As a rigid formula everyone in the theatre expect only a Mass entertainer from 'Pugazh'-Vijay, and Prabhu Deva has done his best to maintain all the elements needed to give a complete Vijay movie - with super hero intro, romance ,comedy, several fights, item songs and finally hero wins over the baddies.

Story:

Hero Pugazh (Vijay) is introduced as a local area super hero who is the savior of poor and the needy. He acts as a Villu (arrow) of a senior Police officer Manoj K Jain and follows his instructions secretly. In his mission he targets international Dadas and as a part of the mission he makes love to Jhanvi (Nayantara), who as expected is the Main Dada Prakash Raj's daughter. Who is Pughazh and why is he back of these dadas is revealed slowly following a flash back in the second half. Director has succeeded in keeping the suspense till the end. Though there are logical flaws here and there, story falls in place.

First half rocks the theater and major credit goes to Vaigai puyal Vadivelu. He tickles us every time he appears on the screen and especially his Nakka Mukka dance in front of Swiss Police is highly comical. Only Kids can enjoy his fight with the graphic cow. Nayanthara chills the screen now and then, its high time she start doing something than a regular heroine shouting at the hero and showing recession in costumes. She is the same in all her recent movies. Mam try to act for a change!

Devi Sri Prasad rocks the floor in 'Jalsa' and 'Nee Kova Pattal' is nice to hear and to see. He could have worked more on BGM as they don't sync with the movie, rather sounds too bold at unwanted places. 'Vaada Maapla' and item song 'Daddy Mummy' is gonna be sizzling in channels for the following days for sure. 'Dheem Thanana Thillana' is a good dance number and 'Rama Rama' is a typical Vijay intro song meant to bring out josh in his fans, Prabhu Deva shows his mark in all songs and Vijay has proved that he is no less a dancer than the director. Kudos to the Choreographers! Kushboo and Prabhu Deva's special appearance in the song adds spice. Villian Prakash Raj fails to impress and has been wasted.

Ravi Varman's Camera has beautifully captured Zurich in songs and fight sequences are amazing. Prabhu Deva has brilliantly capitalized the talents of Ravi. Only one or two dialogues like 'Enakku pottukudukka theriyadhu, Poda thaan theriyum' pin the mind while others fly no where.

Analysis:

Villu has an entertaining first half, flash back in the second half is totally hindi 'Soldier' with added Tamil senti facts. Major Vijay, logic less Blue Ray Disc sequences, Drunk Nayanthara and no different villain Prakash Raj make the movie lag. Vijay imitates Superstar in some scenes which look very obvious and repetitive. Hero Vijay, song sequences, Cinematography and Vadivelu make 'Villu' a pretty good entertainer.
